Sheet Rubber

Sheet rubber has many industrial uses, such as manufacturing O-rings. It is useful for weather-stripping and many applications in the plumbing business. Natural Gum rubber is an excellent general-purpose sealer, while silicon sheet rubber is very resilient and is used in high and low-temperature applications.

Hypalon® sheet rubber is often used by roofing contractors. Neoprene, on the other hand, is used for food-grade applications (though less-expensive general purpose neoprene sheeting is also available). Many other types of sheet rubber are available, such as EPDM, Viton®, and natural gum rubber. 

Nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) is also called Buna rubber, Buna-N, acrylonitrile butadiene rubber, and Perbunan®. NBR is available in a variety of blends with different chemical properties. It is generally resistant to fuels, oils, and other chemicals, depending on the amount of nitrile included in the polymer. Buna rubber blends with less nitrile are less durable but more flexible.

Buna rubber sheets are used for equipment protection, gaskets, and sealing. This material can be fabricated into hoses, grommets, seals, and self-sealing fuel tanks. Buna rubber sheets also can be made into excellent disposable gloves, even for applications in the aerospace and nuclear industries. They are durable, puncture-resistant, and will not break down easily in the presence of chemicals. Buna rubber is also less likely to cause allergic reactions than natural rubber.

Rubber sheeting is available in plain and adhesive-backed styles. You can also choose from a variety of colors and textures, which is especially useful when choosing rubber flooring and mats for kitchens, factories, auto shops, and even aerospace applications.
