AC Motors

Alternating Current (AC) motors convert electrical energy into mechanical energy by utilizing the force exerted by rotating magnetic fields. The current that flows through an AC motor’s coils produces these magnetic fields. An AC Motor is made up of two major components: a stationary stator and outside coils. The outside coils are supplied with an AC current, and an inside rotor is attached to an output shaft.

AC motors can be found in numerous industrial applications, such as pumps, blowers, conveyors, and compressors. There are three different types of AC motors, known as induction, synchronous, and industrial. These types are determined by the rotor design used in the construction.

Induction AC motors, also known as asynchronous motors or rotating transformers, use electromagnetic induction to rotate their output shafts. The rotor in an induction AC motor typically turns slower than the frequency that is supplied to it.

Synchronous motors match the frequency of the alternating current supplied to them. These AC motors can also turn at submultiples of this frequency. Synchronous motors are either powered by slip rings or permanent magnets, which generate magnetic fields around the rotor.

AC Industrial motors are designed for applications that require three-phase, high-power induction motors. The power ratings of industrial motors exceed those of standard single-phase AC induction motors.

Hoffmeyer AC motors deliver precise power and speed control to many types of conveyor systems. Hoffmeyer carries AC motors in a variety of styles and power ratings, from fractional horsepower all the way up to 5,000 horsepower models.
