Pipe sealing tape is a common anaerobic sealant. It is typically used to cover and seal gaps in threaded joint assemblies. The anaerobic adhesive on this tape will not cure while it remains exposed to the air. The adhesive will only begin to cure when the joint is tightened (which cuts off the fresh air supply to the adhesive). Once hardened, this pipe sealing tape (or PTFE sealing tape, as it is commonly referred to) will fill the gaps in the joint threading, preventing any corrosion caused by the leakage of gasses or fluids.
Also known as thread sealant and PTFE sealant tape, pipe sealing tape offers a bonding alternative for parts that would otherwise require shrink or press fits. Care must be exercised in its application, though, to ensure that this PTFE sealing tape covers the entire thread engagement area.
PTFE sealant tapes are perfect for high-pressure applications and heating systems. They are used extensively in the food processing, paper milling, and ventilation industries, as well as in glass-lined reinforced vessels, marine installations, manholes, compressor housing flanges, and pumps. They are also used in cable glands for pressure vessels.
Pipe sealing tape is versatile. It can withstand vibrations and high temperatures without losing its desired properties. This can help to reduce mechanical stress by preventing the leakage and exposure of various contaminants, and can be used to promote seals along surfaces already contaminated with oil or grease. Our standard yellow PTFE sealing tape is designed specifically for 1½-inch gas lines.
